Finally, the students will produce original podcasts to display their data.This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Description: The purpose of this lesson is to introduce students to the planets and sun in the solar system. Students will work together to research assigned planets and create an advertisement poster to promote their planet as a great vacation get away. Students will learn the order of the planets, the size of the planets, and some characteristics of each planet.This lesson incorporates technology, reading, writing, and art. Description: This is an introductory lesson for a unit on the solar system. Students will identify the order and characteristics of the nine planets. Cooperative learning groups, consisting of two students, will research information on a given planet via the Internet, encyclopedias, books, etc. Students will use the knowledge gained to write a descriptive paragraph about a designated planet.

Overview:
The purpose of this presentation is to help present information about the eight planets in our Solar System.  This overview shares vivid images, key characteristics, and a playful song by third graders.  The podcast will help students with learning the order of planets, introduce each planet, and asks students thought provoking questions.  Anyone would be able to use this podcast for an enhancement to an introduction or an ending of a lesson on the Solar System.
