Subject: Mathematics (6 - 7), or Science (5)
Title: Lip Balm Science
Description: During this lesson, students will make three types of lip balm. They will then predict which lip balm they think will be preferred by testers and test that prediction by collecting data from testers who sample the lip balms. They will analyze the data to check their predictions. This lesson is a collaboration lesson between Margaret Rice and Kay Emfinger.

Subject: English Language Arts (5), or English Language Arts (5), or Science (5), or Technology Education (3 - 5)
Title: The Evidence of Chemistry
Description: The students will learn to identify evidence that a chemical reaction has taken place.  They will use the Internet to research evidence and find examples.  They will look around their school and neighborhood for examples. They will perform experiments in the science lab. The students will make a podcast, slideshow presentation, or a digital story board to show the types of evidence they collected and examples of each.

Subject: Science (5 - 8)
Title: I'm So Crushed
Description: In this activity, students will have an opportunity to solve a mystery. They will discover why a soda can collapses during a demonstration due to the effects of changes in temperature and atmospheric pressure. Students will gain further insight in the process of scientific inquiry as they suggest questions that need to be answered in order to solve the mystery at hand. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Subject: Science (5), or Technology Education (3 - 5)
Title: Mystery Powder Investigation
Description: During this lesson, students will work individually to identify a mystery powder. Students will have the opportunity to test known powders with different substances and record observations. Students will develop a plan that can be used to identify the mystery powder (which can be one powder or a mixture of 2 or 3 powders). Students will enjoy exploring the mystery powder to determine what it contains.

Subject: Science
Title: Hot and Cold Colors
Description: The primary purpose of this Science NetLinks lesson is to engage students in an activity that allows them to observe that hotter conditions can speed up changes in materials. Students predict whether food coloring disperses more quickly in hot, cold, or room temperature water, then carry out a short activity to explore their predictions.

Subject: Science
Title: Properties of Air
Description: The purpose of this lesson, from Science NetLinks, is to demonstrate that air takes up space, and puts pressure, or pushes, on everything around it. To start the lesson students are asked to write an explanation of what air is. At various points in the lesson they are be asked to revisit their explanations and refine them based on the phenomena they have experienced in the lesson.

Chemical vs. Physical Change
http://www.chem4kids...
CHEMICAL vs. PHYSICAL CHANGES It is important to understand the difference between chemical and physical changes. The two types are based on studying chemical reactions and states of matter. We admit that some changes are obvious, but there are some basic ideas you can use. Physical changes are about energy and states of matter. Chemical changes happen on a molecular level.
