Students will then use the textbook or Internet websites to draw, label, decorate, or color the life cycle of ferns. Students will also use various resources to answer questions about ferns. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Title: Botany Scavenger Hunt Where's the Ginkgo?
Description: Students use a science nature journal to log in plants native to Alabama. They sketch pictures of leaves, identify the special characteristics of the plant, and describe the environment where it was found. They also research special characteristics and classifiy the plant. Description: This is an inquiry based cooperative learning unit that can be used in biology as a graduation exam review or in botany for a nine week project. The students will learn the life cycle of mosses, ferns, gymnosperms and angiosperms. Overview:
This is a podcast describing the two classes of Angiosperms, Monocots and Dicots. The podcast provides real examples of how you can view a leaf and identify a plant as moncot or dicot. The leaf examples are native to northern Alabama. The podcast can be used in class to introduce the topic or as a review of the topic.
