Title: The Medicine Leaf Man
Description: The teacher will briefly discuss Mississippian time period medicine men. The teacher will read Leaf Man by Louis Elhert and discuss leaves of various trees that grow in Russell Cave National Monument and the surrounding North Alabama area that were used for medicinal purposes. Students will then create a medicine man using the discussed medicinal leaves and tree parts.

Title: The Very Hungry Class
Description: Eric Carle's "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" is a great trade book to teach many concepts across the curriculum. This lesson has activities to excite your students in all subject areas. Students will be familiar with the metamorphsis process and will enrich skills in other curriculium areas.

Description: Over this three-week unit, students will learn basic concepts about weather and the part it plays in their everyday lives. Students will make a slideshow presentation that summarizes the content presented about seasons and things in the sky. Also, students will make a flyer that summarizes the content presented about severe weather and severe weather safety. Finally, students will keep a daily log of local weather and put this information into a website.

Title: Pig Art
Description: Students will explore three-dimensional art and produce an art object. The art will relate to the story of The Three Little Pigs.
Medieval vs. Modern
This interactive website compares and contrasts various aspects of medieval times with modern times (i.e., food, travel, clothing, childhood, medicine).
