Title: Where Did My Sunflowers Van Gogh?
Description: Students will read about the life of Vincent Van Gogh and observe how the events of his life shaped his art. Students will view various works by the artist and evaluate the changes in them. Students will then create a still life sunflower portrait interpretation based on the works of Vincent Van Gogh.

Title: Scrapping the Biomes
Description: This is a student led exploration of the biomes through art and self-expression, in which students create a scrapbook of assigned biomes. This activity utilizes technology, research, and cooperative learning groups for completion. The biomes included in this activity are the tropical rainforest, deciduous forest, grassland, taiga, desert, tundra, freshwater (including rivers and wetlands), and saltwater (including coral reefs and deep sea). This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Title: Critiquing Art
Description: Students will begin to understand that being an critiquing art is not about what one likes or dislikes, but rather if the art makes sense or makes a statement. Students will learn how to use the vocabulary of the Elements and Principles of Design when discussing art.

Title: What's Your Style?
Description: Through collaboration with the art teacher and library media specialist, students will use various electronic information sources to research an artist and discover the style of the artist through examination of the artist's work. Students will create their own miniatures in the style of their artist. A poster will be used to present their research information and miniatures. The art teacher will provide instruction concerning the basic concepts of presentation using a poster.
