Description: Students will select three colleges or universities that they would consider attending. Students will then conduct an online research on the average temperature Highs and Lows for each location over a 12 month period. Next, students will create a line chart illustrating the average temperature highs and lows for each university and then answer 10 questions based on their research (information in the chart). This is a College- and Career-Ready Standards showcase lesson plan.

Title: Find it Fast with Boolean Operators
Digital Tool: Makebeliefs online comic strip creator
Digital Tool Description: www.makebeliefscomix.com is a quick and easy-to-use comic strip creator.  No login is required. Students may choose from a variety of characters and poses, backgrounds, and thought/word balloons to get across the message. This exercise will be done prior to beginning a Standard-based lesson that requires Internet research.. Students will create a comic strip explaining how Boolean operators will increase  search efficiency. The teacher will provide four scenarios (project on screen, or write on board) where Boolean operators would enhance research results. Using a four-fram comic, students will use characters and word balloons to provide the best Boolean search input for the scenarios.
