Title: Can you survive in the real world?
Description:
Living in the real world is expensive and sometimes hard for a new college graduate to adjust to. This lesson will allow students to see the importance and need of budgeting money. Students will have to make choices and research different budget areas. Can they survive in the real world?
This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science University, GEMSU Project.
Standard(s): [SS2010] CIV (7) 9: Apply principles of money management to the preparation of a personal budget that addresses housing, transportation, food, clothing, medical expenses, insurance, checking and savings accounts, loans, investments, credit, and comparison shopping.
Subject: Mathematics (4  6), or Social Studies (7), or Technology Education (6  8)

Title: My Math Curse!
Description:
Math is a part of our everyday life. Fifth grade students discover how math can help us at home, the store, etc. By exploring the Internet, students practice solving problems they may encounter in life. Their imagination is the limit when they create their own real life problems for their friends to solve.
Standard(s): [MA2013] (5) 16: Solve realworld problems involving multiplication of fractions and mixed numbers, e.g., by using visual fraction models or equations to represent the problem. [5NF6]

Title: Equivalent Fractions
Description:
This lesson helps students discover how to obtain equal fractions by using both fraction strips and playing a fraction matching game. Students will learn that to obtain equal fractions they will need to multiply the numerator and denominator by the same number.
Standard(s): [MA2013] (4) 15: Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication to multiply a fraction by a whole number. [4NF4]
