Description: The students will watch a read aloud song of the story 'Giraffes Can't Dance' by Giles Andraea. The students will learn about the different types of animals mentioned in the story. Students will also create a visual representation which describes the order in which the animals were seen in the story.

Title: Science Writing with Author Lois Ehlert
Description: This is an interdisciplinary language development unit addressing science and language arts standards designed for English Language Learners. In the week-long unit students will learn the life cycle of plants and discuss various uses for plants. They will also use the writing of a renowned children's author, Lois Ehlert, as a model for their own writing. During the final project students will follow the writing process. The lesson format follows the Sheltered English Instructional Observation Protocol (SIOP).

Digital Tool Description: Storybird is a website where you can create and publish books that you write. The site has many illustrations that you can use with the book that you have written. You can also read other people’s creations and give feedback on them. You can also receive feedback from other people about your creations. Storybird can be used in writing and teaching the students about technology. It can expand the students’ creativity by giving them a chance to create something that is all their own and publish it. This will also get students excited about reading and writing.
