Description: During this lesson, students will compare and contrast different point of views from the fairytale, “The Three Little Pigs” and the story, “The True Story of the Three Little Pigs” by Jon Scieskra. Students will have the opportunity to discuss their opinion on the two stories. Students will then work in groups to create their own podcasts where they are to imagine they are a reporter interviewing the wolf or the three pigs.

Title: True Identity
Description: After reading a chapter book together as class, table groups will each be given a different story character to analyze in more detail.  Student groups will chose from a given list of choices how they want present their character via a creative app on the iPad to the rest of the class.  The other table groups must guess the character being presented and base their guess upon text evidence.  The table group that everyone guesses accurately wins.

Description: In this lesson, students will listen to a read aloud and view a model of the project expected related to the first read aloud.  Students will then complete a group project based on a story read as a class. Description: In this lesson, students will observe literary elements and devices in a variety of chapter books. Students will be paired with a partner and allowed to choose one book to identify literary elements. Using digital cameras and a computer, students will find pictures of objects that are related to their book. Lastly, students will use their photos to create a reading display board and a podcast that will include each literary element, pictures, objects, and the actual book. Students will be required to present their display board and podcast to the class. Attached podcast also discusses how to conduct a Reading Fair.

The "How Do You Write a TV Script" wonder will be used to help students as they prepare to write their own mock newscast based on the event of the Birmingham Sixteenth Street Church bombing in 1963, as read about in the novel by Christopher Paul Curtis, The Watsons go to Birmingham, 1963. After reading the novel and exploring information about life in the 1960s, students will imagine what a news report from that day would have looked like. They will view this resource to understand the important components of a script before getting into small groups to write their own newscasts. The teacher will combine the scripts and students will create a short film either independently or with teacher assistance and present their newscast during Black History Month.
