HTML Personal Web Site

Overview/Annotation:

Students will create a personal Web site consisting of a home page and three additional pages. A variety of images will be used including images from digital cameras, scanners, and the Internet. The Web site must also include a theme, bulleted and numbered lists, tables, a marquee, and JavaScript.
This is a Commerce and Information Technology lesson plan.

BMA(9-12) Multimedia Design10. Develop interactive Web pages and sites using a variety of component formats, including HTML, HTML editors, and Web authoring programs.

Materials and Equipment:

Students will bring in past and current pictures of themselves, friends, and family members to be included in the web site.

Technology Resources Needed:

Computers with presentation software such as PowerPoint, LCD projector, scanner, digital cameras, flash drives, and Internet access.

Background/Preparation:

Students will need to have had instruction in creating HTML web pages, using JavaScript, using graphic file formats, and operating a digital camera and scanner. Students will also need to know how to create tables.
Students will need to have had instruction on web design and know how to create thumbnail sketches and rough drafts.

Procedures/Activities:
1.)Give students the Personal Web Site Handout and grading rubric handout for creating their personal web site. Explain the handout and rubric making sure students understand the guidelines.

2.)Review with students how to hyperlink their web pages together. Suggest creating a table for a navigation bar.

3.)Tell students to bring in pictures that need to be scanned and any digital pictures they will be using. Use digital cameras to take pictures in class for use on their web site.

4.)Demonstrate how to use the Occupational Outlook Handbook. Students will need to include information from the OOH on their careers page. Suggest using a table to display the information. Information required for the careers page is in the Personal Web Site Project attachment.

5.)Have students create thumbnail sketches of their four web pages. Then have them create rough drafts of each page before starting to create the web pages on the computer.

6.)When complete, have students share their web sites with the class using an LCD projector.

Assessment Strategies:

Teacher will use the grading rubric to evaluate student web sites.

Extension:

Students who are already familiar with HTML will research the Internet to find additional HTML tags not required in handout to add more creativity to their web sites.

Remediation:

Have students go to HTML tutorials for additional practice with HTML.
