| Overview/Annotation: |
This language arts lesson uses technology to assess students' understanding of nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Each student will use a digital camera to take a picture at school. He will then write a descriptive sentence about the picture using a word processor. Students will use a specified colored font to identify the nouns, verbs, and adjectives in the sentence. |

The student will identify nouns, verbs, and adjectives in his/her sentence. The students will be given the opportunity to identify these parts of speech in sentences written by the other students in the class.

| Background/Preparation: |
This project should take place after a study of nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Students will work in groups of 3 or 4 or as a class to take pictures. |
| Procedures/Activities: |
1.)The student will take a picture of a school activity or scene. Some examples of a school activity or scene are:
the librarian reading a book to a class,
the secretary answering the phone,
students writing stories,
the custodian cleaning a window.
2.)After viewing the picture on the computer, the student will use the word processor to write a sentence describing the picture.
3.)The student will insert the floppy from the digital camera into the computer. The student will print the picture.
4.)The student will write a descriptive sentence about the picture using the word processor.
5.)The student will highlight each noun and change the font to blue.
The student will highlight each verb and change the font to red.
The student will highlight each adjective and change the font to green.
6.)The pictures and sentences will be displayed in a book about their school. Each student will read his/her page to the class. The class will identify the nouns, verbs, and adjectives orally.

| Assessment Strategies: |
The teacher will assess the student's understanding of nouns, verbs, and adjectives using the sentence the student wrote and words typed in blue, red, and green.
The teacher will use the sentence to address any concerns with the mechanics of sentence writing as well as use of the word processor.
The teacher will observe the students when they volunteer to identify nouns, verbs, and adjectives in the sentences of their classmates.
