Large index cards, Chalkboard, Chalk, Tape
Technology Resources Needed:
Background/Preparation:
Write a sentence with an action verb on the board and label the action verb. Discuss what a verb does in a sentence. Write sentences on the board leaving out the action verb. Prepare index cards with action verbs written on them.
Procedures/Activities:
1.)Write action verbs on large index cards and tape them to the chalkboard.

2.)Write a sentence on the board.

3.)Label the action word (verb). [v] Example: The dog ran away.

4.)Discuss what a verb does in a sentence.

5.)Write a sentence on the board leaving out the action verb.

6.)Read the sentence to the students.

7.)Have a student choose the index card with the correct or best verb to tape in the blank on the board.

8.)Continue with other sentences until all students have had a turn.
