About Us

Meg Lowry and Dede Coe are your new Library Media partners at the Alabama Deparment of Education. Please allow us this opportunity to introduce ourselves and to let you know about the new Digital Content/Library Media Program at the Alabama Department of Education. We are aligned under the Office of Learning Support, Technology Initiatives and have expanded the existing Library program.  The Digital Content program was created with the goal of giving support to the School Librarians in our state as they face expanded job expectations.  While the role of the school librarian has always been that of an information specialist, the vast amount of information now available digitally makes your job even more important; that of preparing students to be informed and responsible 21st Century citizens.  In order to adequately address the diverse needs of all Alabama students, we will be working to support librarians and their district to make sure that our libraries are ready for the challenge! Librarians have the education and skills to lead Alabama schools through the educational landscape of Dr. Tommy Bice’s Plan 2020. In our role as an instructional leader, we link teacher’s, student’s and the entire educational community to resources necessary for success at every level. In recognition of the importance of this link, we are declaring our theme for the year to be LNK2LRN.

Join us as we participate in Alabama's Summer Learning Challenge.
