Meg Lowry and Dede Coe are your Library Media partners at the Alabama Department of Education. Please allow us this opportunity to introduce ourselves and to let you know about the Library Media Program at the Alabama Department of Education. We are aligned under the Office of Student Learning, Instructional Services. Our goal is offering support to the School Librarians in our state as they face expanded job expectations.
While the role of the school librarian has always been that of an information specialist, the vast amount of information now available digitally makes a librarian's job even more important; that of preparing students to be informed and responsible citizens.
In order to adequately address the diverse needs of all Alabama students, we will be working to support Dr. Tommy Bice and his PLAN 2020, librarians, and districts to make sure that our libraries are preparing our graduates to be college and career ready.
Implementation of PLAN 2020 will improve student growth and achievement, close the achievement gap, increase the graduation rate, and increase the number of students graduating high school that are college-and career-ready and prepared to be successful in our global society.
