Animals 2x2
Overview:
This podcast gives students an overview of the most common classifications of animals. It is a teacher narrated video that allows students to see pictures and examples of different traits  of animals. The pictures will show students characteristics of the types of animals and their habitats. This video is an introduction to our science unit Animals 2x2. First grade students will expand on this podcast by creating their own podcast on a chosen animal.

This podcast was created to intoduce the AMSTI unit, Plants.  The podcast shows a variety of plants the students might recognize and plants they will be learning about when studying the plant unit.  It also gives a demonstration on how to plant a brassica seed, which is a seed the students will be planting.

Exploring Owls: A Look into the Life of a Predator
Overview:
This Podcast is designed to use as an introduction into a lesson on owls and food chains. Each slide allows ample time for the teacher to clarify or add information for the students. The podcast tells basic information about owls and what they eat. It is designed to use in a first grade classroom.

Story Time in the Butterfly Garden
Overview:
In this podcast the students go to the school's butterfly garden for storytime.  The teacher reads a story about Painted lady butterflies, which is the type of butterflies that we have raised for our garden. The students will listen while they are surrounded by butterflies.  The students will later write about their experiences visiting the butterfly garden.  They will observe the life cycle of the butterfly and identify three stages that are present in the garden; the egg, chrysalis and the adult butterfly.

Life Cycle of the Butterfly
Overview:
In this podcast we will discuss the life cycle of a butterfly. We will examine each stage of the cycle. The students will have an opportunity to observe each stage and experience the transformation of a caterpillar to a chrysalis and to a butterfly. The students will learn about the parts of a butterfly. The students will learn about what caterpillars and butterflies eat.

Hairy Caterpillars
Overview:
In this lesson students will learn about the things seeds need to grow. We will use rye grass and potting soil, knee high stockings, pipe cleaners, and wiggly eyes. The students will measure a half cup of the dirt mixture for each of the three sections of the caterpillar. They will tie off the knee highs in between sections. Add pipe cleaners for antennas and wiggly eyes. Water with a spray bottle several times a day. The seed will sprout within a few days.    Resources: http://www.thebutterflysite.com/life-cycle.shtml
