Title: The Biography Project: Exploring the Past in 21st Century Ways
Description: Through this project-based lesson, students will do research on and create an oral presentation based on the life of an influential Famous American. Students will utilize various means to glean information, from online databases, various websites, and age-appropriate biographical literature to prepare for the final product: a "Living Wax Museum." Students will determine the most relevant information to write a script presented in the form of an oral presentation. The presentations will also be recorded and published as a podcast for sharing on the teacher's website.


Subject: Social Studies (2 - 3)
Title: Sailing the World on the USS Alabama
Description: This inquiry based lesson gives students the opportunity to acquire and practice map skills while applying the knowledge to real life experience based on the USS Alabama Battleship.

Title: The Five Senses- How They Relate to Our World
Description: This lesson will demonstrate and incorporate the use of the five senses. Through hands-on and exploratory experiences, students will gain an understanding of the importance of the five senses. Students will also gain an awareness of the limitations for those who do not have use of all of their senses. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.


Subject: Social Studies (2 - 10)
Title: UNDERGROUND RAILROAD, ROUTE TO FREEDOM
Description: This activity will require the teacher and student to travel throughout the school and its buildings as they travel the underground railroad. As they travel they will stop at safe houses, rest and eat before they proceed finally crossing the Ohio River to freedom.
