Title: Montgomery Field Trip Tour Book
Description: During this lesson, students explore the functions of our government through the Internet, slideshow presentations, and by visiting Alabama's capital city of Montgomery. Students will use their field trip as a guide to create a tour book of the government in Montgomery.

Title: A Divided Nation
Description: Students will explore the sectional differences between the North and the South that ultimately led to the southern secession. Students will learn what is meant by secession and which states seceded, the country they formed, its capital, and whom they elected president. Students will create a PowerPoint Presentation, a brochure, and possibly a newsletter using computer software presenting information they have learned.

Title: State Jeopardy - How Much Do You Know About My State?
Description: This lesson is a distance learning collaborative project involving another school. Each school will do research on the other school's state and be able to answer questions about that state posed by the other school. Students learn not only about another state, but about their own in formulating questions to stump their opponents.

Title: A Tour of Birmingham: WebQuest
Description: This inquiry-based project will provide opportunities for students to learn about the history of Birmingham. Students will discover the variety tourist attractions in Birmingham, Alabama.

Title: Sharing Your Town's History
Description: In this Xpeditions lesson, students are introduced to the concept of historic preservation and asked to find out about places of historic significance in their town. Students create pamphlets or Web pages that showcase some of these places. Ideally, they try to get their pamphlets distributed to the community or have local organizations link to their Web pages.
