Title: Learning about Solids and Liquids: Dissolving "Peeps" marshmallow candies.
Description: In this lesson, students will experiment with solids and liquids. This lesson will help students to have a higher understanding of solids and liquids, and dissolving solids. Students will carry out the experiment for a week; making observations, recording data, and discussing vocabulary related to the experiment. Data will be kept in a graphic aid (table/chart) on the computer to add to each day the experiment is observed over 5 days. Observations will be entered daily into a graphic aid on the computer. This is a technoligical way to keep up with the data from the experiment.

Subject: Science (1 - 2), or Technology Education (K - 2)
Title: What's the Matter?
Description: In this lesson, students will explore the different states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas. The students will be able to have discourse about the states of matter. They will use ActiVote clickers to be interactive with a Flipchart identifying the different states of matter.

Subject: Science (1 - 2), or Technology Education (K - 2)
Title: Why Does It Rain?
Description: The focus of this lesson is to demonstrate how rain occurs. Through trade books, Internet exploration and a teacher-led experiment, students become familiar with the water cycle.

Subject: Science (2), or Technology Education (K - 2)
Title: Matter
Description: During this lesson, students explore matter through a hands-on investigation. By participating in an experiment and navigating the Internet, students learn to identify the properties of matter.

Subject: Science (2), or Technology Education (K - 2)
Title: All About Clouds
Description: This lesson uses hands-on activities and trade books along with websites to explain the formation of clouds. This lesson may be used in conjunction with a weather unit.

Subject: Science (2)
Title: Solids, Liquids, and Gases
Description: This lesson focuses on solids, liquids, and gases. It has several review activities and an exciting lab experiment involving ice cream to complete the lesson.

Subject: Science (2)
Title: Air is All Around You
Description: In this science lesson students will be asked the question, "Does air take up space?" and "Does air have weight?" Students will conduct experiments that prove that air has mass, takes up space, and exerts pressure.

Title: Disappearing Water      Add Bookmark
Description: In this Science NetLinks lesson, the first in a three-part series, students observe the amount of water in an open container over time, and they observe the amount of water in a closed container over time. Students compare and contrast the sets of observations over time. This lesson is designed to help the students prepare themselves for the idea that most substances may exist as a solid, liquid, or a gas depending on the temperature, pressure, and nature of that substance.

Title: Ready, Set, Let's Dough! It's a Matter of System      Add Bookmark
Description: In this Science NetLinks lesson, students look at a complex system when they create their own play dough by taking several parts and creating a whole. Through their constructions, students gain an understanding that individual parts are used to make a whole.

Title: Melting and Freezing      Add Bookmark
Description: In this Science NetLinks lesson, the last in a three-part series, students investigate how melting and freezing impact the amount of three separate everyday items--water, chocolate, and margarine. This lesson is designed to help the students prepare themselves for the idea that most substances may exist as solids, liquids, or gases depending on the temperature, pressure and nature of that substance.
