Title: Discovering the Planets
Description: The purpose of these lessons are to teach students about the planets and other objects in the Solar System.  The students will read the chapter book The Magic School Bus – Space Explorers as a class and then research each of the planets it talks about.  They will also create a brochure advertising their specified planet.  These lesson plans incorporate technology, science, reading, writing, and art.

Title: Our Solar System
Description: This is an introductory lesson for a unit on the solar system. Students will identify the order and characteristics of the nine planets. Cooperative learning groups, consisting of two students, will research information on a given planet via the Internet, encyclopedias, books, etc. Students will use the knowledge gained to write a descriptive paragraph about a designated planet.

Description: In this lesson from Science NetLinks, students take a closer look at the sun and begin to recognize its critical function in heating and warming the air, land, and water that sustain our lives. This involves drawing their attention to the basics of the heat around them and how the sun is the primary source of that warmth. They then perform a number of indoor and outdoor activities that help them begin to identify the sun as the natural, universal source of heat in the world.
