Title: Edible Cell
Description: As part of the study on Life Processes, the students will watch a video clip at Cells Alive to see a model of the cell and its componenets. The students will use edible products to create an animal cell. Each product will represent a component of the cell. This will be done whole group.This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Title: Animals with Backbones
Description: Students will learn about animals with backbones and then create a slideshow presentation that shows the characteristics of the different groups of vertebrates. They will also create a brochure explaining how a specific animal is adapted to survive in a particular environment.

Title: Biomes: Where are the Wild Things?
Description: During this lesson, students will explore biomes, ecosystems, and habitats by navigating the Internet. They will research biomes, ecosystems, and habitats in order to create a newsletter. They will have the opportunity to distribute their newsletters and discuss their findings with students in their school.

Title: Let's Identify and Classify
Description: During this hands-on lesson, students learn about scientific classification by navigating the Internet. They will examine a variety of potato chips in order to create their own classification key.

Description: During this lesson, students navigate the Internet to discover facts about vertebrates and invertebrates. They use the facts they learn to participate in several class activities.

Description: This lesson will explain the reasons that society groups and classifies. The lesson has a hands-on component that helps students connect everyday grouping with the way that scientists group and classify all living organisms.

Title: I Know What I Am... but, What Are You? (Classifying Living Things)
Description: During this lesson students will develop an understanding of how to classify living things and what creates the distinction among them. They will learn to classify living things by effects, environment, and activity.

Title: Systems Every "body" Needs to Know
Description: This lesson is designed to allow students to explore the human body through a WebQuest with Internet and multimedia resources provided for research. Students will create a cell diagram, write a letter, and create a slideshow presentation to demonstrate knowledge of the subject and appropriate use of technology.

Title: Animals: Unique Creatures With Great Features
Description: During this unit of study, students will become knowledgeable of animals' characteristics, basic needs and habitats. The purpose of this unit is to educate students through investigation and research about various animals and the characteristics which link them to specific animal groups. Students will present information through models, oral reports and presentations.

Title: Animal Classification
Description: In this lesson, students will discuss the classification of animals. They will work in groups to research and present classification information about a selected group of animals.

Title: The Power of the Presentation
Description: Students will research an endangered African animal using resources from the Alabama Virtual Library and other Internet sites, and then design and present a persuasive and informative digital slideshow presentation on the animal and how to prevent extinction.

Description: In this Science NetLinks lesson, students explore the relationship between a bird's beak and its ability to find food and survive in a given environment. Students learn about bird beaks through observation, both virtual and of local birds, and through a variety of games and activities.

Description: In this student activity from, Xpeditions, students take on the role of zoo director with a mission to teach people about the importance of biodiversity. Students examine maps and then create their own map that illustrates areas of the world where endangered species are found.

Description: In this lesson, from Science NetLinks, students participate in classroom discussions about animals. They also visit a Web site to learn more about animals and how well (or poorly) they've adapted to satisfying their needs in their natural habitats. These activities will help move them toward the goal, in later grades, of understanding ecosystems.

Title: Life in a Drop of Pond Water      Add Bookmark
Description: In this Science NetLinks lesson, the second in a two-part series on microorganisms, students observe microscopic organisms found in pond water using a hand lens, 30x magnification, and 100x magnification. Then students participate in discussions about how single-celled living things might satisfy their needs for food, water, and air.
