Title: Inner and Outer Planets of the Solar System
Description: In this science lesson students will work collaboratively to learn and introduce the eight planets, sizes, characteristics, and their order.  They will use size comparisons, research a planet, design a poster and create a PowerPoint presentation.

Title: Scaling Down the Solar System
Description: In this lesson students will work collaboratively to gain a better understanding of the vastness of space by scaling down the solar system. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science University, GEMS-U Project.

Title: Beyond The Earth Part I
Description: Students will access prior knowledge of the solar system by completing a graphic organizer.  After participating in a teacher lecture and whole group discussion, the students will work in collaborative groups to create a computer-generated drawing of the solar system.  Students must label each part and write a brief description of it.This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science University, GEMS-U Project.

Title: Beyond the Earth Part II
Description: A continuation of Beyond the Earth Part I.  As part of a unit on the solar system, students will choose a component of the solar system to research.  Students may use a variety of resources such as the Internet, books, and reference materials. Once the research is complete, students will work in collaborative groups to design travel brochures using a desktop publishing program.This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science University, GEMS-U Project.

Title: Inner and Outer Planets
Description: As part of the space unit, students will learn about the physical and chemical components of the planets. The students will compare the planets in list form. It will also incorporate math by using measurement and numerical order.This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Title: Meteor or Meteorite
Description: Students will learn the difference between a meteor and a meteorite. Students will perform an experiment to discover how the size and weight of an object determines the size of the impact crater.


Subject: Science (4 - 6), or Technology Education (3 - 5)
Title: Sun, Earth, and Moon: Calendar of Events
Description: During this lesson students are going to take a look at moon phases and sunrise-sunset times in order to learn about daylight hours. Students discover that we do not always have the same amount of daylight each day. This lesson is best completed in December and January.

Title: Stars
Description: During this hands-on lesson students learn about the life cycle of a star. They recreate the life cycle and explore the Internet to learn more about stars.

Title: Lost in Space – A Solar System Study
Description: During this technology based lesson, students navigate the Internet to learn interesting information about the solar system. They use the information to complete a worksheet and to create a puzzle or challenge for their classmates.

Title: Introduction to the Universe
Description: Students use descriptive words to create imagery of the many varieties of objects found in our universe.

Title: Exploring the Solar System      Add Bookmark
Description: The purpose of this lesson, from Science NetLinks, is to introduce students to Earth's moon and the eight other planets in our solar system. Students learn about the geology, composition and orbits of other planets by planning a trip to another planet.
