Description: The students will explore the properties of light in order to understand optics. Students will do two activities that will aid with their mastery of this concept.This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Description: In this Science NetLinks lesson, students view objects of various sizes from several viewing distances to discover that their visual field is limited. Students record what they see and compare their observations with classmates in an open, nonjudgmental forum. They have the opportunity to speculate about and experiment freely with magnifying glasses and also conduct more structured experiments.

Description: This Science NetLinks lesson is designed to develop students' understanding of sinking and floating. Students first classify a group of common objects by a characteristic of their own choosing. Then they reclassify the same group of objects by their predictions about whether each item will float or sink in water. As a group, they design an experiment to test their predictions (hypotheses).
