Subject: Science (5)
Title: "A BODY IS A TERRIBLE THING TO WASTE"
Description: Students will explain that the human body has different organ systems with different roles. Also, they will discover and illustrate the organelles that each system contains. In addition, students will describe the function of each system. They will explain why these functions are vital to human life.  At the conclusion of the lessons, the students will work collaboratively in their groups to create a podcast depicting an assigned human body system.

Subject: Science (5), or Technology Education (3 - 5)
Title: Systems of Our Human Body...A Study Through PowerPoint
Description: This is a student-led exploration of the systems of the human body, through technology. Students will work cooperatively to develop a PowerPoint presentation that will thoroughly explain each system. Systems included are: circulatory system, respiratory system, excretory system, and reproductive system. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Subject: English Language Arts (5), or English Language Arts (5), or Science (5)
Title: As Large As Life. . . A Poster of a Human Body System
Description: This is a student led exploration of the systems of the human body through art and self expression. Groups will cooperatively develop a poster, the size of a fifth grade student, and will accurately depict the assigned system of the human body. The included systems are the circulatory system, respiratory system, and excretory system. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Subject: English Language Arts (5), or English Language Arts (5), or Science (5), or Technology Education (3 - 5)
Title: Digestive System Adventure
Description: During this lesson students adventure through the digestive system via the Internet. They then use their knowledge of the digestive system to create an original story about their favorite food's adventure down the digestive track.

Subject: Science (5), or Technology Education (3 - 5)
Title: The Skeletal System
Description: This lesson is designed to teach children about the skeletal system. Children will learn about the different bones that make up the body and be able to identify those bones. Students will have the opportunity to navigate the Internet to learn more about the skeleton.

Subject: English Language Arts (4), or English Language Arts (4), or Science (4 - 5), or Technology Education (3 - 5)
Title: Systems Every "body" Needs to Know
Description: This lesson is designed to allow students to explore the human body through a WebQuest with Internet and multimedia resources provided for research. Students will create a cell diagram, write a letter, and create a slideshow presentation to demonstrate knowledge of the subject and appropriate use of technology.

Subject: English Language Arts (5), or English Language Arts (5), or Science (5)
Title: Imaginary Journey Through a System of the Body
Description: The students will choose one of the systems of the human body, such as circulatory, respiratory, digestive, or nervous system, and imagine that they are inside it. They will write a description of what a journey through this system of the body would be like.

Title: How Big Is Your Heart?      Add Bookmark
Description: In this lesson, one of a multi-part unit from Illuminations, students explore the size of their hearts. They do this by measuring the length, width, and circumference of their fists and relating this to the size of their hearts.

Title: Good Food, Good Health      Add Bookmark
Description: In this Science NetLinks lesson, one of a three-part series on nutrition, students use Internet resources to explore ways in which food provides energy and materials for their bodies. They research how food can affect their overall health.

Title: Bottled Model Lungs      Add Bookmark
Description: In this lesson, from Science NetLinks, students learn about the respiratory system by comparing and contrasting models, building their own models, and giving one another feedback. The investigatory focus of this activity encourages students to tinker with inputs and outputs and in a sense '' play'' with putting together and taking apart parts, as a way of teaching them how to design systems.

Title: Systems of the Human Body      Add Bookmark
Description: In this Science NetLinks lesson, students use an online interactive activity to learn about the concept of separate components working together to build a body system. In addition, this lesson focuses on activities to help students learn that body systems work together to build the functioning human body. This lesson could be used in conjunction with instruction on the human body and/or systems.

Title: All Systems are Go!      Add Bookmark
Description: In this tool, created by Science NetLinks, a fictional character, Arnold is missing a number of body parts. Students are presented with a body system and a variety of organs, which they drag and drop into Arnold s body. While this page links to the overview of the tool for grades 3-5, you can access reviews for additional grades and benchmarks using the navigation tools at the top of the overview.

Title: Food and the Digestive System      Add Bookmark
Description: This Science NetLinks lesson, the first of a three part series on nutrition, focuses on what nutrients are needed to do particular tasks for the body. More specifically, where the nutrients come from, their different forms, and then their importance for particular tasks in the body. Some of the lesson focuses on the overall digestive system in order to address the fact that undigested food is eliminated.
