Title: Nature's Life Cycle
Description: In this lesson from "The Friends of Auntie Litter", (www.auntielitter.org), characteristics of living things will be explored.  Auntie Litter challenges the Litter Patrol to determine which of three green plants is alive.  This lesson is one from the “Take Pride Statewide” series.

Title: Forest Habitat (Little River Canyon National Preserve)  
Description: Little River Canyon National Preserve's habitat is an Eastern Deciduous Forest. There are a variety of trees and animal life within this biome. It experiences seasonal changes in temperature and precipitation.

Title: Invasive Plants
Description: Invasive plants are non-native plants that grow in an environment that has no native diseases, parasites, or predators. This allows them to grow rapidly and be destructive to native plants.

Title: Venomous Snakes of Little River Canyon National Preserve
Description: There are three known venomous snakes found at Little River Canyon. They include the timber rattlesnake, copperhead, and cottonmouth.

Title: Little River Canyon's Carnivorous Green Pitcher Plants
Description: A digital slide program introduces the Green Pitcher Plant (Sarracenia oreophila) to the students.  Students use a model of the Green Pitcher Plant and plastic insects to role play. They will tell the story of habitat adaptation and interaction around the pitcher plant bog. Pitcher Plants and the animals in the neighborhood have lives interconnected to the environment. This lesson plan is made possible through the ALEX and the U.S. National Park Service Partnership.

Title: Scrapping the Biomes
Description: This is a student led exploration of the biomes through art and self-expression, in which students create a scrapbook of assigned biomes. This activity utilizes technology, research, and cooperative learning groups for completion. The biomes included in this activity are the tropical rainforest, deciduous forest, grassland, taiga, desert, tundra, freshwater (including rivers and wetlands), and saltwater (including coral reefs and deep sea). This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Title: From Weeds to Worms
Description: The purpose of this lesson is to guide students in researching and discovering the importance of the interdependence of living and nonliving things in an ecosystem. Students utilize technology independently and cooperatively to establish requirements for conducting experiments.

Title: Animals with Backbones
Description: Students will learn about animals with backbones and then create a slideshow presentation that shows the characteristics of the different groups of vertebrates. They will also create a brochure explaining how a specific animal is adapted to survive in a particular environment.

Title: Leap Into The Life Cycle Of a Frog
Description: During this lesson students explore the life cycle of a frog. They will raise frogs in the classroom from tadpoles and document and describe each stage of the life cycle.

Title: Biomes: Where are the Wild Things?
Description: During this lesson, students will explore biomes, ecosystems, and habitats by navigating the Internet. They will research biomes, ecosystems, and habitats in order to create a newsletter. They will have the opportunity to distribute their newsletters and discuss their findings with students in their school.

Title: Our Trip Around the Biomes
Description: During this lesson, students travel to the biomes by way of the Internet. They learn the characteristics of biomes, including animals, plants, temperatures, etc. Students then use this information to create a slideshow presentation to help the zoo improve animal habitats.

Title: Is That a Whale?
Description: This lesson will increase student knowledge of whale anatomy and habitat while using the Internet for information gathering.

Title: Crowding Animals- How Close is Too Close?
Description: In this lesson students will explore the concept of crowding as it relates to people and animals. The main purpose of this lesson is for students to recognize the possible negative consequences to people and animals as a result of crowding.

Title: At Home in a Biome
Description: This lesson allows students to study and learn the names and characteristics of Earth's six major biomes. The biomes are introduced with a slideshow presentation. A paper-folding poster activity gives students the opportunity to reinforce what they have learned. The culminating activity, a diorama, provides an avenue for creativity as students create a three-dimensional model of a biome.

Title: A Water Dilemma - Mapping Dragonfly Pond
Description: This is a hands-on, technology rich lesson involving wetlands and the effects humans and human development have on these precious ecosystems. This is a follow-up lesson to a wetlands introduction and discussion.

Students conclude by designing their own aquarium habitats based on what they have learned.

Description: This Science NetLinks lesson, the first of a three part series on nutrition, focuses on what nutrients are needed to do particular tasks for the body. More specifically, where the nutrients come from, their different forms, and then their importance for particular tasks in the body. Some of the lesson focuses on the overall digestive system in order to address the fact that undigested food is eliminated.
