Title: Saving Our Oceans      Add Bookmark
Description: In this Xpeditions student activity, students are asked to teach oceanographers with different specialties about other ocean specialties and thus create a better understanding of the ocean as a complete, diverse system. The students job is to give the opening speech at the International Oceanographic Conference outlining the general kinds of oceanography in a way that each type of oceanographer will understand. Then they must assign different oceanographers to different projects and explain to them how best to work together.

Title: Water Column Mix-Up      Add Bookmark
Description: In this Xpeditions lesson, students investigate three broad ocean habitats--the intertidal zone, the pelagic zone (open ocean), and the abyss--and find out about some specific adaptations animals have made in each of these regions. They conduct Internet research and answer questions about what they find, and conclude by writing paragraphs describing what would happen if marine animals were placed in the wrong levels of the ocean.
