Title: Moon Phases
Description: This lesson will familiarize students with the phases of the moon. It can be taught in a unit dealing with the solar system. It involves all learning types-kinesthetic, auditory, tactile, and visual.

Subject: Science (6), or Technology Education (6 - 8)
Title: Moon Phase Craze
Description: This lesson is designed to use online technology resources to practice and reinforce knowledge learned in class on Moon Phases. Students will view online animations with student interaction, while keeping a log of their phase activities. They will also take an online assessment upon completion of the activity. Following this activity, students will use Oreo cookies to make the phases of the moon in order from new moon through one complete phase and identify each. They will also take pictures of each of their cookie phases and insert into a multimedia slideshow project. On the last page of the slideshow, they can insert a video made with video editing software such as "Movie Maker" and the pictures will loop together that show the moon's phases all in one motion.

Subject: Science (4 - 6), or Technology Education (3 - 5)

Title: Lunar Cycle 2: The Challenge      Add Bookmark
Description: In this tool, created by Science NetLinks, students '' drag'' moons to their correct places in lunar cycles. There are calendars that include illustrations of the phases of the moon for most days, and the challenge is for students to complete the calendars by filling them with the correct moon phases for all days. A child s voice narrates the activity, providing students with ongoing feedback and guidance. There are three levels in this Lunar Cycle Challenge, and after students successfully complete all three levels they can print out a certificate of completion. There is also a printable version of this tool, allowing for a hands-on activity in which students manipulate illustrations of the phases of the moon, placing them in the correct sequence in lunar cycles. While this page links to the overview of the tool for grades 3-5, you can access reviews for additional grades and benchmarks using the navigation tools at the top of the overview.

Title: Make a Mission      Add Bookmark
Description: This tool, created by Science NetLinks, helps users understand some of the factors involved when NASA designs a real mission to space. In this interactive game, users build a spacecraft in order to explore the planet Mercury--just as the NASA team did when they planned and built the real MESSENGER spacecraft. While this page links to the overview for the Make a Mission tool for grades 6-8, you can access reviews for additional grades and benchmarks using the navigation tools at the top of the overview.

Title: Lunar Cycle 1: Calendar      Add Bookmark
Description: This tool, created by Science NetLinks, includes printable calendars on which students can record their observations of the moon. In addition, it provides illustrations of the phases of the moon (a full lunar cycle) that can be printed, cut out, and given to students, allowing for a hands-on activity in which students place the phases of the moon in the correct sequence on a calendar. While this page links to the overview of the tool for grades 3-5, you can access reviews for additional grades and benchmarks using the navigation tools at the top of the overview.

Description: In this Science Update, from Science NetLinks, you'll hear a professor of meteorology at the University of Hawaii describe why the most powerful supercomputer attracts scientists from all over the world. This supercomputer creates complex models of earthquakes, ocean currents, and weather events in great detail. Science Updates are audio interviews with scientists and are accompanied by a set of questions as well as links to related Science NetLinks lessons and other related resources.
