Title: Automotive Brake Service-inspecting and machining a disc brake rotor on-the-vehicle
Description: The proper inspection machining or refinishing of disc brake rotors ensures quality brake repairs with little to no opportunity for returns for customer complaints. This lesson will teach inspection, measuring and machining techniques and procedures.

Subject: Science (9 - 12)
Title: How High Did My Rocket Go?
Description: This is a lab in which the students will calculate the height of an air or water rocket by using trigonometry.

Subject: Science (9 - 12), or Technology Education (9 - 12)
Title: Force and Motion
Description: In this lesson, the students will work across the curriculum using technology, business education, and mathematics. They will form a company and use the physics of force and motion to build a hovercraft. The students will use this experience to apply to 'real life' business situations. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Subject: Science (9 - 12)
Title: Designing a Rube Goldberg Machine
Description: In this lesson, students will apply their knowledge of complex and simple machines to designing a Rube Goldberg Machine. Students will calculate the mechanical advantage of 3 of the simple machines in their design. Students should also relate Newton's 3 Laws of Motion to their machine. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Subject: Mathematics (9 - 12), or Science (9 - 12)
Title: Discovering Earth's History
Description: This lesson introduces the basic principles that are used to interpret geologic time. It associates the relationships between the rock record and historical events that created the landforms on our planet. It explains how the rock record can be interpreted by geologists. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project, funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Subject: English Language Arts (9 - 11), or English Language Arts (9 - 11), or Science (9 - 12)
Title: Graphing Gallery Walk
Description: In this lesson, students will participate in a gallery walk to realize the vast amount of information found in a graph. Students will make notes of the graphs as they rotate through the gallery. At the conclusion, students will create a story from an assigned graph. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Subject: Science (9 - 12)
Title: Plate Tectonics
Description: This lesson culminates the hypothesis of Continental Drift and Sea floor Spreading into the Plate Tectonic Theory. The students will be able to recognize that our planet is ever changing. They should be able to analyze the forces which create destruction on our planet are directly related to its shifting surface. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Subject: Science (9 - 12)
Title: Motion in One Dimension
Description: This hands-on exercise allows students to view and calculate the various factors involved in one-dimensional motion. Students will use remote control vehicles to illustrate the linear motion. Students will use the information gathered from the motion of the remote control vehicles to solve various equations for velocity, acceleration, distance traveled, or time. Students will then represent the relationships between these factors graphically.

Subject: Science (9 - 12), or Technology Education (9 - 12)
Title: Gas Pressure
Description: This lesson is a demonstration lecture that defines gas pressure in terms of force, explains how pressure is measured, and defines and converts units of pressure. Students will create a slide show presentation on a gas and its uses in science, medicine, or technology.

Subject: Science (9 - 12)
Title: Energy and Work Amusement Park Style
Description: This is a lesson presenting energy and work. It covers: types of energy, forms of energy, work, law of conservation of energy, and renewable and nonrenewable energy sources. In the activities section, one will find links to Internet sites that explore concepts of energy and work. Interactive labs are also included in this lesson. The lesson can serve as a student-led or teacher-led lesson. It gives a brief statement of facts; therefore, the teacher must provide expansions, if needed. The expansions could come from the Internet sites since many of them go into more detail about the concepts. The teacher will also be expected to supply some form of assessment for the lesson.
