ALEX Lesson Plans
Subject: Science (9 - 12), or Technology Education (9 - 12) Title: Gymnosperms, Cone Bearing Vascular Plants
Description: Students will research printed encyclopedias, Internet resources (thinkfinity.org) and their science textbook to gather information to answer questions and draw an assigned portion of the Life Cycle of the Gymnosperms. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Subject: Science (9 - 12), or Technology Education (9 - 12) Title: The Life Cycle of Ferns, A Seedless Vascular Plant
Description: Students will listen, watch, and read while the teacher goes over the life cycle of the ferns. Students will then use the textbook or Internet websites to draw, label, decorate, or color the life cycle of ferns. Students will also use various resources to answer questions about ferns. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Subject: Science (9 - 12), or Technology Education (9 - 12) Title: Cell Division- A WebQuest
Description: In this lesson, students will learn about cell division via the Internet. Students will learn about the stages of mitosis and meiosis. In addition, students will learn about the cell cycle. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project, funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Subject: Science Title: From Cell to DNA
Add Bookmark
Description: This tool, created by Science NetLinks, features an animation that takes students through a tour of a typical human cell, moving from larger to smaller cell structures. It briefly describes some of these structures and describes how DNA strands are constructed. While this page links to the overview of the tool for grades 9-12, you can access reviews for additional grades and benchmarks using the navigation tools at the top of the overview. Subject: Science Title: Cells in Reverse
Add Bookmark
Description: In this Science Update, from Science NetLinks, you'll hear about how scientists have reversed the process of cell division, a trick once thought to be as impossible as un-ringing a bell. Molecular biologist Gary Gorbsky explains how scientists have been able to reverse the cell cycle by manipulating the proteins that regulate the process. Science Updates are audio interviews with scientists and are accompanied by a set of questions as well as links to related Science NetLinks lessons and other related resources.
