Subject: Science (9 - 12)
Title: Plants are Survivors!
Description: All plants have basic life requirements. Understanding these requirements as well as plant structure helps explain why plants prefer some locations over others. This project allows students to work in cooperative groups to explore the impact of the environment and tissue structure on plants. It also allows students to summarize their findings in a multimedia presentation.

Subject: Science (9 - 12), or Technology Education (9 - 12)
Title: Gymnosperms, Cone Bearing Vascular Plants
Description: Students will research printed encyclopedias, Internet resources (thinkfinity.org) and their science textbook to gather information to answer questions and draw an assigned portion of the Life Cycle of the Gymnosperms. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Subject: Science (9 - 12), or Technology Education (9 - 12)
Title: The Life Cycle of Ferns, A Seedless Vascular Plant
Description: Students will listen, watch, and read while the teacher goes over the life cycle of the ferns. Students will then use the textbook or Internet websites to draw, label, decorate, or color the life cycle of ferns. Students will also use various resources to answer questions about ferns. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Subject: Arts Education (1), or Science (9 - 12), or Technology Education (6 - 8)
Title: Botany Scavenger Hunt Where's the Ginkgo?
Description: Students use a science nature journal to log in plants native to Alabama. They sketch pictures of leaves, identify the special characteristics of the plant, and describe the environment where it was found. They also research special characteristics and classifiy the plant. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Subject: Science (9 - 12), or Technology Education (9 - 12)
Title: The Circles of Life
Description: This is an inquiry based cooperative learning unit that can be used in biology as a graduation exam review or in botany for a nine week project. The students will learn the life cycle of mosses, ferns, gymnosperms and angiosperms. The teacher can choose to do the cycles together or separate. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.
