Title: Gymnosperms, Cone Bearing Vascular Plants
Description: Students will research printed encyclopedias, Internet resources (thinkfinity.org) and their science textbook to gather information to answer questions and draw an assigned portion of the Life Cycle of the Gymnosperms. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.


Subject: English Language Arts (9), or English Language Arts (9), or Science (9 - 12), or Technology Education (6 - 8)
Title: All About Plants
Description: Students will take notes on plants and as a review they will create a multimedia presentation on topics learned including information about their favorite flower. For the duration of the lesson students will also solve and create help wanted ads based on plant organs. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Title: Botany Scavenger Hunt Where's the Ginkgo?
Description: Students use a science nature journal to log in plants native to Alabama. They sketch pictures of leaves, identify the special characteristics of the plant, and describe the environment where it was found. They also research special characteristics and classifiy the plant. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Title: The Circles of Life
Description: This is an inquiry based cooperative learning unit that can be used in biology as a graduation exam review or in botany for a nine week project. The students will learn the life cycle of mosses, ferns, gymnosperms and angiosperms. The teacher can choose to do the cycles together or separate.This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.
