Title: Telling Time to the Hour
Description: This lesson helps children make a connection between the digital and analog clock. In general, the number system is based on units of ten which can sometimes make it difficult for children to realize that time is based on cycles of 60.This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Title: Learning to Clean Tables by Using Sign Language/Picture Symbols
Description: This is a L.I.F.E Skills functional and reading lesson using sign language and picture symbols for a severe/profound class with little or no verbal expressive language skills.

Title: Hush Down Under
Description: During this lesson students will listen to a read-aloud of Possum Magic, by Mem Fox. Students will then help the teacher search the Internet for Australian connections (animals and habitats). The students will write in their journals about Australian animals, then the class will create a class book to remember the information they learn during the lesson.

Title: A Penny For Your Thoughts
Description: This is an outline for a week-long lesson usually taught in the month of February around President's Day. It is an interdisciplinary study combining coin identification with a literature-based study of the Presidents represented on the coins.

Title: Celebrating The Chinese New Year
Description: During this lesson, students will learn about the Chinese New Year celebration, including customs, symbols and their meanings, and roles of adults and children. Following the lesson, students will compare the celebrations in United States and China. The students will also draw a picture and write a sentence about their favorite holiday celebration.

Title: Art Fun With the Fairy Tale, The Fisherman and His Wife
Description: This lesson will give students the opportunity to view a variety of illustrations in different forms of literature. Students will be able to create their own work of art. They will also find that fairy tales can inspire readers to create original works of art.

Title: The Four Seasons
Description: This is a reading and writing lesson for special education/early elementary about the four seasons.

Title: Once Upon A Bear
Description: This lesson uses children's literature as a basis for a cross-curricular mini-unit on bears.

Title: Word a Day
Description: Word a Day allows students to develop a bank of sight words that are meaningful to them. Each student picks words to add to his/her individual word bank. The teacher can specify particular categories or let the student choose any word. The student then finds a picture or symbol to illustrate each word using a variety of resources.

Description: In this Xpeditions lesson, students relate the five themes of geography (location, place, human/environment interaction, movement, and regions) to their own home town. Students first gather information about their town and then create books, Web sites, or multimedia presentations showcasing their town's unique features.

After locating the earth's major oceans on a world map, students dive underwater to discover the plants and animals that live in the sea. Students listen to stories and poems with oceanic settings and learn about the forms of sea life featured in each. They can add their own artwork and text about ocean animals and plants to a cut-away ocean display. Finally, students engage in various forms of creative writing about the ocean and ocean life.
