Description: During this lesson, children "wonder" when interacting with text. Instead of predicting what comes next in the story, students use their imaginations to wonder about what might happen. They create their own wondering multimedia slide about a new text. This is a great way to encourage creativity.
Subject: English Language Arts (1), or English Language Arts (1), or Technology Education (K - 2) Title: A Star and a Wish
Description: In this lesson students will use the game "A Star and a Wish" to help develop better fluency in reading. After practicing the game as a whole group, students will be divided into pairs to continue playing the game and have the opportunity to remediate on "wish" items.
Subject: English Language Arts (1), or English Language Arts (1), or Technology Education (K - 2) Title: Pass the Punctuation, Please!
Description: During this lesson students will listen to the story, Noisy Nora by Rosemary Wells and identify punctuation used in the story. Students will also play games to strengthen knowledge of punctuation usage. They will then use the Internet to practice what they learn during this lesson.

Description: During this lesson students will listen to the story Max's Wacky Taxi Day by Max Grover and edit capitalization and punctuation taken from the story. The students will have the opportunity to practice their new skills by working on the Internet.

Description: Students will write and illustrate I Am poems. An I Am poem is an 18-line, three-stanza poem which students write about themselves, or a real or fictitious character. When all students have presented their poems to their classmates, the poems will be compiled in a booklet and shared with others.

Description: Students will read a story from their readers in pairs, alternating paragraphs.

Description: This lesson uses the book, The Jacket I Wear In The Snow, by Shirley Neitzel, to build writing skills as well as introduce students to the skills of alphabetizing, sequencing, and recognizing synonyms. This lesson could be used to integrate a winter weather unit into the Language Arts curriculum.
