Title: The Biography Project: Exploring the Past in 21st Century Ways
Description: Through this project-based lesson, students will do research on and create an oral presentation based on the life of an influential Famous American. Students will utilize various means to glean information, from online databases, various websites, and age-appropriate biographical literature to prepare for the final product: a "Living Wax Museum." Students will determine the most relevant information to write a script presented in the form of an oral presentation. The presentations will also be recorded and published as a podcast for sharing on the teacher's website.


Subject: English Language Arts (K)
Title: Getting to Know Characters: Lilly and Other Kevin Henkes Friends
Description: In this language development lesson using the books by Kevin Henkes English Language Learners learn vocabulary and language structures to express feelings, make text-to-self connections, and practice the reading strategy of analyzing characters. In the final project students create a character of their own. This lesson format follows the Sheltered English Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP).

Title: Who Do You Think You Are?
Description: Students will demonstrate an understanding of character through improvisation.  Students will imagine and clearly describe their characters through performance.  They will relate a character's actions and emotions and create a setting.

Title: It's Your Birthday, Dr. Seuss!
Description: This lesson plan is intended to be used during the month of March when the class is preparing to celebrate Dr. Seuss Day. After listening to and reading different stories by Dr. Seuss, the students have opportunities to compare and contrast story elements through critical thinking and Venn diagrams.

Description: In this unit of six lessons, from EDSITEment, students become familiar with fairy tales. They read and learn to understand fairy tales so that they can better comprehend the structures of literature, as well as for the sake of the wonder, pleasure, and human understanding these stories can provide in their own right.
