Title: The Biography Project: Exploring the Past in 21st Century Ways
Description: Through this project-based lesson, students will do research on and create an oral presentation based on the life of an influential Famous American. Students will utilize various means to glean information, from online databases, various websites, and age-appropriate biographical literature to prepare for the final product: a "Living Wax Museum." Students will determine the most relevant information to write a script presented in the form of an oral presentation. The presentations will also be recorded and published as a podcast for sharing on the teacher's website.

Title: Who Do You Think You Are?
Description: Students will demonstrate an understanding of character through improvisation.  Students will imagine and clearly describe their characters through performance.  They will relate a character's actions and emotions and create a setting.

Title: Exploring Customs and Cultures- Part 1
Description: Students meet both language arts and social studies objectives in this interdisciplinary unit on customs and cultures. In part 1 of the unit students practice research and writing skills to create a slideshow. In part 2 of the unit students explore culture through games and work with a partner to write a page in a class how-to book.

Title: The Solar System
Description: The purpose of this lesson is to introduce students to the planets and sun in the solar system. Students will work together to research assigned planets and create an advertisement poster to promote their planet as a great vacation get away. Students will learn the order of the planets, the size of the planets, and some characteristics of each planet.This lesson incorporates technology, reading, writing, and art. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Title: Reptile Adventure
Description: During this lesson, students work with small groups and partners on reptile research. They will have the opportunity to use books and the Internet for research. They will also go on a reptile adventure searching for new information about reptiles.

Title: Fortune Cookie Verbs
Description: During this lesson students have the opportunity to create fortune cookies and identify the verbs in the fortunes.

Title: On the Farm with Wilbur and Charlotte
Description: During this unit, students will explore many aspects of the book Charlotte's Web. Students will work as a group to develop a presentation, design a web page, and prepare a newsletter. They will also complete a WebQuest about Charlotte's Web and study farm animals.

Title: A Readers' Theatre for Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain
Description: This readers' theatre of Verna Aardema's Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain crosses the curriculum to incorporate language arts, social studies, and science objectives. Students will become familiar with the text of the story and then present the story as a play with parts.

Title: What Is Your "Bat"itude?
Description: This lesson is for use at the beginning of a unit on bats to help determine students' previous knowledge about bats as well as their bat attitudes. Students will begin by drawing an illustration describing their feelings about bats. Students will then discuss what they know about bats. Finally, students will view factual information and interact with the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo through a virtual field trip, "Boo! I'm a Bat".

Title: Is it a Moth or a Butterfly?
Description: During this lesson, students will explore the differences and similarities between a moth's life and a butterfly's life. Students will be given the opportunity to improve upon their note-taking skills during a virtual museum tour. Students will enhance their technology skills by designing slideshow presentations from information gathered on the Internet.

Title: I Am Poems
Description: Students will write and illustrate I Am poems. An I Am poem is an 18-line, three-stanza poem which students write about themselves, or a real or fictitious character. When all students have presented their poems to their classmates, the poems will be compiled in a booklet and shared with others.

Title: Publishing a Book Report Using Word Processing
Description: This lesson provides students with the basic steps to using word processing. Students will use word processing software to publish a final copy of a book report. Students will review the main parts of a book report. This lesson will teach students technology skills they will use throughout their school career.

Title: A Penguin Tale or Tail?
Description: This interdisciplinary approach to science, language arts and technology will guide students into a study of real information about penguins and their habitat. They will learn to identify homophones and share what they learn using appropriated communication and listening skills.

Title: Ants on a Log--A Language Experience Story
Description: This lesson will allow students to create a snack using celery, peanut butter, and raisins (called "Ants on a Log"). Then the students will write about the experience using transitional words. The teacher can adapt the lesson to any mode of writing desired.

Title: On the Loose With Dr. Seuss
Description: Students will survey teachers in order to find out the titles of their favorite Dr. Seuss books. They will work in small groups and use digital cameras to take pictures of each teacher and his/her favorite book.

Title: Decisions, Decisions, Decisions!
Description: Students will read and discuss the story, Ira Sleeps Over, by Bernard Waber and write a persuasive paragraph about the story, using a Think-sheet to guide the writing.

Title: Glorious Sunflowers
Description: In this lesson students will identify, measure and graph seeds and other characteristics of sunflowers and write descriptive and narrative paragraphs about sunflowers.
