Subject: English Language Arts (9)
Title: Romeo and Juliet "What if......?"
Description: Student groups will be assigned separate acts of Romeo and Juliet where they will read and interpret the original version; then, remake it using a modern spin but keeping the same basic plot.


Subject: English Language Arts (9), or Technology Education (9 - 12)
Title: Poetry Slam
Description: Students will locate a poem of their choice from a designated website to interpret. Students will then search the Internet for performances of the poem they select. In addition to creating a written interpretation of the poem, including references to websites they visited to view other performances, students will perform the poem of their choice before a live audience. Prior to their performance, students will create posters using Glogster to advertise the slam. As audience members, students will evaluate the performance of their peers.

Title: Movie Madness
Description: This language arts projects motivates students through being a movie-based project. This lesson will have a duration of five days. The students will view a movie of their choice and analyze the movie to complete a chart listing literary elements for them to identify. Then the students will create a PowerPoint presentation based on the chart and present the information to the class.

Title: IT'S IN THE BAG!
Description: Students will view a PowerPoint presentation on the effects of plastics in our environment and hold a debate evaluating the pros and cons of using plastic bags. They will also construct plastic bag animals using chicken wire, plastic bags, and spray paint while creating a podcast of the project.

Title: To Kill a Mockingbird Character Interviews - Podcast
Description: Students will write and produce character interviews based on the novel To Kill a Mockingbird. The interviews will be produced as a podcast based on characters from the novel and students' interpretation of the events in the novel, as well as its historical setting. The project will be a conclusion to the class study of the novel.

Title: Cybersafety
Description: This lesson is designed to increase student awareness of the concept that there are dangers associated with Internet usage. This is a Commerce and Information Technology lesson plan. This lesson was adapted from iSafe.org and personalized for my school setting.


Subject: English Language Arts (9 - 10), or Science (9 - 12), or Technology Education (9 - 12)
Title: Body Symmetry of Animals
Description: Students will watch a slideshow about the body symmetry of animals. Included is a short quiz of animals and images. The students will determine the symmetry of each animal. Students then design their own animals. They should design one with each type of symmetry.This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Title: Environmental Issues Scrapbook and Podcast
Description: Over the duration of a semester students will collect newspaper and magazine articles related to environmental issues. Students will compose a scrapbook of articles. Students will choose two topics to record and share with the class.This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Title: Take Two: Using Technology for Writing and Designing
Description: In groups, students brainstorm to create a product, develop an advertisement for the product, design and present a slideshow, script a commercial for the product, and present the commercial in a 5-10 minute video.


Subject: English Language Arts (7 - 9), or Technology Education (6 - 8)
Title: Oral Presentation of Favorite Celebrity
Description: Using the Internet to research facts about a favorite celebrity, students gain the organizational and oral presentation skills needed to successfully deliver an effective speech and slideshow presentation.

Title: The Great Energy Debate      Add Bookmark
Description: This Xpeditions lesson explores the controversial issues surrounding the energy debate in the United States. Students research recent initiatives being taken in this area and analyze their implications. They then assume the roles of pivotal stakeholders in this debate and testify to a mock congressional committee responsible for making decisions about public lands and energy resources.

Description: This lesson, from EDSITEment, focuses on Cinque, the leader of the 1839 Amistad revolt. The lesson draws on a variety of documentary resources to examine how he was perceived by Americans on both sides of the debate over slavery.

Title: 'You Kiss by the Book'': Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet      Add Bookmark
Description: This lesson, from EDSITEment, complements study of plot and characterization in Romeo and Juliet by focusing on Shakespeare's use of lyric forms and conventions to spotlight moments in the drama and thereby heighten the impact of the action on the stage. Students examine the first meeting between Romeo and Juliet as an enactment of figurative language in a context of competing poetic styles, explore the use of poetic forms to impart perspective in later episodes of the play, and gain experience in close reading and the interpretation of verse structure and imagery.
