Description: The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock contains a touch of hyperbole...to say the least, as well as imagery. This fun project based activity will allow students to engage in the lighter side of figurative language.

Description: This project based activity will use Sylvia Plath's poem, Mirror, to examine the use of personification and figurative language. The activity may also incorporate the use of technology to produce a multimedia project. This allows collaboration with the Business Tech/Multimedia Publication instructor.

Description: Students explore the way African-American author Zora Neale Hurston makes use of closely observed black folk life in her novel Their Eyes Were Watching God. Students read the novel, research Hurston's own life and ethnography, listen to her WPA recordings of folksongs and folktales, and compare transcribed folk narrative texts with the novel itself.
