Title: Instrument Families of the Orchestra: String
Description: This lesson is the first lesson in a series of four lessons on the instrument families of the orchestra. Students will learn the characteristics and sounds of the instruments in the String Family of the Orchestra.  They will identify the instruments by sight and sound. They will be able to name instruments from highest to lowest sound production.

Title: Instrument Families of the Orchestra: Brass
Description: This lesson is the third lesson in a series of four lessons on the instrument families of the orchestra. Students will learn the characteristics and sounds of the instruments in the brass family of the orchestra.  They will identify the instruments by sight and sound.  They will be able to name instruments in order from highest to lowest sound.

Title: Instrument Families of the Orchestra: Percussion
Description: This lesson is the fourth lesson in a series of four lessons on the instrument families of the orchestra. Students will learn the characteristics and sounds of the instruments in the percussion family of the orchestra.  They will identify the instruments by sight and sound, and group instruments according to pitched or unpitched percussion.

Title: Instrument Families of the Orchestra: Woodwind
Description: This lesson is the second lesson in a series of four lessons on the instrument families of the orchestra. Students will learn the characteristics and sounds of the instruments in the woodwind family of the orchestra.  They will identify the instruments by sight and sound, and group instruments according to single reed, double reed, and no reed.

Title: Orchestra Instruments and Their Families
Description: During this lesson students learn the orchestra instruments and to which family each instrument belongs. They visually identify instruments and navigate Internet sites to see and hear each instrument.


Subject: Arts Education (3 - 12), or English Language Arts (3), or English Language Arts (3), or Technology Education (3 - 5)
Title: Composers Then and Now
Description: During this lesson students will have the opportunity to research the following composers: Kenny G, W.C. Handy, Johannes Brahms, and Amadeus Mozart. Students will learn to navigate the Internet to locate important facts. They will also learn to use publishing software to create a brochure from the information they collect.


Subject: Arts Education (3 - 12), or Technology Education (3 - 5)
Title: Rainforest Music
Description: During this lesson, the world of the rainforest will come alive. Students will have the opportunity to explore the music of the rainforest and create a musical instrument of their own. The Internet will be used as a tool to gather additional information for students to use in a multimedia presentation.

Title: Music from Across America      Add Bookmark
Description: In this unit of five lessons, from EDSITEment, students listen to a variety of popular, traditional and ethnic American music--from the evocative sounds of Native American drumming to the lively sounds of zydeco music from Louisiana. To develop their listening skills, students use worksheets to record their impressions about the music they hear. In addition to learning about musical instruments and the geographic and cultural context of music, students are encouraged to think about and express their personal responses to music.
