Description: Students will learn about loans and how to calculate the monthly payment on a major purchase such as a car loan, home loan, or school loan. In a spreadsheet students will learn how to calculate monthly payments using the PMT (Payment) function. This is a College- and Career-Ready Standards showcase lesson plan.

Title: Financing Your College Education-What College Can I Afford?
Description: This lesson provides student with the opportunity to think about financing college by considering the best use of the funding available. Consider pros and cons of attending school in state or out of state. Students should determine which education option they can afford to meet the goal of attending college. This plan contains a financial aid component.

Title: What Is Simple And Compound Interest and How Can I Make It Work For Me?
Description: Students will learn how simple and compound interest is figured and why it is important to maintain a savings account. Students will calculate compound interest to identify benefits of saving in interest-bearing savings accounts. They will learn the "Rule of 72" which states that your savings will double in a specified number of years. Students will learn how to become a millionaire when they retire by investing in a high-yield interest bearing investment strategy while they are in their 20's.

Title: Protecting Your Identity
Description: Students will create a database of Identity (ID) Theft Protection Services. Students will create a database report with recommendation regarding individual companies' that provide identity theft protection services and which company has the best product for the price. This is a Commerce and Information Technology lesson plan.

Title: Charge It?
Description: In this lesson, students will select appropriate and inappropriate uses of credit cards by role-playing a college student who must choose to either use cash or a credit card to pay for a variety of real-life scenarios. This lesson plan is adapted from “The Credit Safari” lesson plan at The Consumer Jungle.
