Subject: Mathematics (2), or Science (2) Title: Whoa! Where'd It Go? (States of Matter Data Collection)
Description: This lesson allows students to use the properties and characteristics of solids, liquids, and gases, to determine how different variables affect their changes. Students predict what will happen and spend short amounts of time daily to observe and record data. Students will graph their newfound data into charts to see patterns and solve math problems.
This lesson was created as a part of the 2016 NASA STEM Standards of Practice Project, a collaboration between the Alabama State Department of Education and NASA Marshall Space Flight Center.

Description: After watching the video clip of the Hershey's plant, students will use grid paper to investigate multiplication as repeated addition.

Subject: English Language Arts (2), or Mathematics (K  2), or Science (2), or Technology Education (K  2) Title: Digging In For Dirt Day!
Description: This lesson is managed through stations that students will rotate around every 20 30 minutes. Each second grade teacher conducts one station. Parent volunteers can also be used to manage stations. Students will use an auger to gather soil, produce a soil painting, make a dirt cup to represent layers of soil, do a Shake It Up! activity to examine how soil settles, and examine local soil.

Description: During this lesson students learn how numbers create fact families. Students identify missing numbers from a fact family by working on an Internet site. They also create their own slideshow presentation demonstrating fact families.

Description: During this lesson, students will learn how to add 3digit numbers using regrouping. Students will use manipulatives to help them learn this new concept. Students will have the opportunity to reinforce what they learn by navigating different websites.

Description: This lesson teaches the basic math multiplication facts in a fun way so that students will want to remember them. Knowledge of all multiplication facts will help with learning subsequent skills in longer multiplication, division, fractions, etc.

Description: During this lesson students get to experience shopping through a slide show. They have to choose an item and then place the correct amount of money beside the item they wish to purchase. Students also practice counting money via the Internet.

Description: As part of a study on pumpkins, students will discover what's inside a pumpkin by observing a pumpkin, making individual booklets, and tasting baked pumpkin seeds.
Subject: Mathematics (2), or Technology Education (3  5) Title: Math in Everyday Life
Description: In this lesson students will solve word problems involving time and money, focusing on addition, subtraction, multiplication, and fractions. The students will also work with a partner to make up their own word problems and then gain practice solving word problems using various Internet sites.
Subject: Mathematics (K  2), or Technology Education (K  2) Title: Toy Store Money
Description: During this lesson students will have the opportunity to use real coins to purchase items in a class department store. Students will work to determine which coins they need to purchase an object. They will also practice counting skills on the Internet before the big shopping day.
