ALEX Lesson Plans
Subject: Mathematics (2) Title: Getting Froggy Wih It
Description: Students will solve problems using a number line. Students will work collaboratively to create a "Town" with the main street consisting of a number line diagram. They will practice counting forwards and backwards, measuring and determining distance in units on the number line.
Subject: Mathematics (2), or Science (1) Title: Jelly Beans Add Up
Description: The lesson will explore counting, sorting, and graphing skills. The lesson provides students an exciting and fun way of exploring and internalizing graphing, sorting, and counting skills. Realistically, the students will discover what color jelly bean is contained more often than any other color in a standard bag of jelly beans. Moreover, students will be investigating probability. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Thinkfinity Lesson Plans
Subject: Mathematics Title: Hopping Backward on the Number Line
Add Bookmark
Description: In this lesson, one of a multi-part unit from Illuminations, students generate differences using the number line model. Because this model highlights the measurement aspect of subtraction, it is a distinctly different representation from the models presented in lessons one and two. The order property for subtraction is investigated. At the end of the lesson, children are encouraged to predict differences and answer puzzles involving subtraction. Thinkfinity Partner: Illuminations Grade Span: K,PreK,1,2

Subject: Mathematics Title: Exploring Other Number Patterns
Add Bookmark
Description: In this lesson, one of a multi-part unit from Illuminations, students make and extend patterns with numbers in a variety of mathematical contexts. They also explore functions at an intuitive level. Thinkfinity Partner: Illuminations Grade Span: K,PreK,1,2
