Description:
In this lesson, the students will use the technology resource Mission:Biomes to research and gather data for precipitation and temperatures for assigned biomes. The students will use the data to create a bar graph to display climate data for each biome.
This lesson was created as part of the 2016 NASA STEM Standards of Practice Project, a collaboration between the Alabama State Department of Education and NASA Marshall Space Flight Center.

Description: This projectbased lesson provides students with opportunities to complete the engineering design process and explore concepts of sinking/floating, buoyancy, water displacement, and density. Students will participate in interdisciplinary, handson experiments as they plan, build, test, evaluate, and redesign watercrafts.

Description: This is a handson lesson that uses science and the steps of the Engineering Design Process to determine important properties in sail design materials and learn how to harness wind power. Students will learn that a problem can be solved in different ways using different materials, properties of materials change its effectiveness, conducting tests help determine versatility of materials, and that wind can be harnessed to do work.

Description: An animal’s physical characteristics, such as its body color, may give it a better chance of survival. For example, the body colors of many animals blend with their background. In this investigation, students will see that body color may help some animals survive by making them nearly invisible to predators. This lesson is designed to introduce students to the concept of camouflage as an animal adaptation.
