Description: In this lesson, eighth grade students will learn the steps necessary to approximate the square roots of numbers that are not perfect squares. Students will use a number line as a visual aid to complete this task.
Subject: Mathematics (8) Title: Rational or Irrational? That is the question.
Description: Students will participate in an activity that will help them obtain a feeling of how numbers are related to each other. They will determine whether a number is rational or irrational. Students will also be able to order rational and irrational numbers on a number line.This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Description: This lesson focuses on a clear understanding of the real number system by using a variety of teaching strategies. A graphic organizer on a slideshow illustrates how the classifications of numbers relate. A kinesthetic activity helps students compare the classifications.
