Title: Sweethearts and Data Analysis
Description: This activity uses boxes of Sweethearts for students to gather data.  They will perform computations and use their data to create a circle graph, frequency table, histogram, and line plot. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science University, GEMS-U Project.

Subject: Mathematics (6 - 12)
Title: My Peanut Butter is Better Than Yours!
Description: The students will engage in the process of statistical data comparing data using tables and scatterplots. The students will compare data using measures of center (mean and median) and measures of spread (range). This lesson can be done with the worksheet or adapted to let the students use a graphing calculator to create their own scatter plot from the data table. This lesson is modified and adapted from Samples and Populations, Connected Math, Prentice Hall- Publisher. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Subject: Mathematics (8 - 12)
Title: Interpreting and Displaying Sets of Data
Description: The students will be able to take a set of given data and interpret the data into quartiles. Students should then be able to determine the parameters for a box and whisker plot by identifying outliers, interquartile range, and the five number summary. Students will determine the best method for displaying data whether it be line plot, scatterplot, box and whisker plot, etc. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Subject: Mathematics (6 - 12)
Title: BOX-AND-WHISKER--With a Bed Sheet
Description: The class will make a list of all of their classmates heights, ages in months, and shoe sizes. They will then use this data to create a human box-and-whisker plot. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Subject: Mathematics (8 - 12), or Technology Education (9 - 12)
Title: The State Capital of Stem and Leaf
Description: This lesson is a hands-on, technology based math lesson. Students will create a stem-and-leaf plot and scatter plot both manually and using Microsoft Excel. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Subject: Mathematics (7 - 12)
Title: Statistically Thinking
Description: The object of this project is for students to learn how to find univariate and bivariate statistics for sets of data. Also, the students will be able to determine if two sets of data are linearly correlated and to what degree. The students will use Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel to find, organize, and present their projects to the class.

Subject: Mathematics
Title: Taking Its Toll      Add Bookmark
Description: In this Illuminations lesson, students compare the price of a toll to the distance traveled. Students investigate data numerically and graphically to determine the per-mile charge, and they predict the cost if a new tollbooth were added along the route.

Subject: Mathematics
Title: Traveling Distances      Add Bookmark
Description: In this lesson, one of a multi-part unit from Illuminations, students interpret the meaning of the slope and y-intercept of a graph of real-life data. By examining the graphical representation of the data, students relate the slope and y-intercept of the least squares regression line to the real-life data. They also interpret the correlation coefficient of the resulting least squares regression line. This lesson incorporates an interactive regression line applet.
