Description: Students will explore the accomplishment and societal repercussions of Gertrude Ederle being the first woman to swim the English Channel. They will also model vectors representing the currents she had to face to accomplish these goals.This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

They develop an understanding that vectors are composed of both magnitude and direction, and extend their knowledge of number systems to the system of vectors.
