Title: "Panda"-mania!
Description: In this lesson students will discover the many different ways animals change as they get older. Students will explore specifically the life of a baby panda; his looks, behaviors, and his characteristics.  This is a College- and Career-Ready Standards showcase lesson plan.

Title: My Very Own Puppy!
Description: The students will participate in a read-a-loud with the teacher by reading the book "Biscuit." The students will learn about taking care of a puppy. Students will also create text to self comparisons by using sentence starters to describe what they do when they don't want to go to bed. Students will then post their sentences into the class blog.

Title: Science Writing with Author Lois Ehlert
Description: This is an interdisciplinary language development unit addressing science and language arts standards designed for English Language Learners. In the week-long unit students will learn the life cycle of plants and discuss various uses for plants. They will also use the writing of a renowned children's author, Lois Ehlert, as a model for their own writing. During the final project students will follow the writing process. The lesson format follows the Sheltered English Instructional Observation Protocol (SIOP).

Title: Making Measuring Meaningful!
Description: This activity helps students recognize that measuring tools can come in many different shapes and sizes. The student's will develop creative-thinking, math, and social skills as they use nontraditional and traditional measuring tools. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science University, GEMS-U Project.

Title: Are You a Square or a Rectangle?
Description: During a hands-on, inquiry approach lesson, students will discover the difference between standard and non-standard units of measure. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science, GEMS Project funded by the Malone Family Foundation.

Title: Reading and Writing about Miss Moo Goes to the Zoo by Kelly Graves
Description: This lesson provides literature-based reading and writing activities for special education and early elementary students. This lesson may also be used to illustrate the character education traits tolerance, self-respect and compassion.
