Title: What Makes a Leader?
Description: In this lesson, students will learn about various leadership qualities and historical American leaders. Each student will research an American leader of their choice and create a presentation about their life and impact on our country using the iPad app Educreations. Students will then participate in a class discussion about their thoughts on the researched leaders and how they can show leadership in their everyday lives. 


Subject: English Language Arts (2), or Technology Education (K - 2)
Title: Who's Side Are You On? 
Description: In this lesson students will compare and contrast two versions of The Three Little Pigs. Students will use the Story Kit app on iPads in groups to recreate the story of The Three Little Pigs and The True Story of the Three Little Pigs. Students will write a brief explanation of which story they believe is true and why. Students will "judge" in "court" which version of the story is true based on evidence provided.

Title: Analyzing Text:  What is the Author really saying? We Better Take This Thing Apart!
Description: Critical thinking skills such as analyzing text requires a true understanding of the text. Analyzing requires the students to break the text apart and looking carefully "closely" at the different components and making sense of the text. Students must be lead to break the text into it's components and then reorganize the text.  Teachers can teach analyzing skills by modeling their thinking through questioning the text and making students aware of the authors purpose. This is a College- and Career-Ready Standards showcase lesson plan.

Title: The Apple Pie Tree
Description: Who doesn't love an apple pie?  In this story, students will observe an apple tree throughout the seasons while answering who, what, where, why, when, and how questions.  As a conclusion, students will make and eat an apple pie! This is a College- and Career-Ready Standards showcase lesson plan.


Subject: English Language Arts (2), or Science (2)
Title: Using Informational Text
Description: In this lesson, students will learn about frogs and toads using the book Frogs by Gail Gibbons.  Students begin the lesson by brainstorming what they already know about frogs and toads. After reading the book, students will compare and contrast a frog and a toad by using the diagrams located in the book. At the end of the lesson students will use the information in the text to draw and label a frog and a toad. This is a College- and Career-Ready Standards showcase lesson plan.

Title: 100 More Hungry Ants
Description: Students will investigate what happens to the number of ants at a picinc when 100 more ants arrive at the picnic. They will explore this concept using a slide presentation followed by a partner game.  This lesson plan was created by exemplary Alabama Math Teachers through the AMSTI project.

Title: Introduction to the Dewey Decimal System
Description: This lesson introduces the Dewey Decimal System of numbering used for arranging nonfiction books on the shelves of an elementary school library.
