Title: Goosebumps! Observing Similarities and Differences Between the Book and the Television Episode
Description: In this lesson, students will be comparing and contrasting the first half of the book and television episode of Goosebumps: The Blob That Ate Everyone.  Students will watch the episode of Goosebumps only up until where they are currently at in the book. The class will then discuss the similarities and differences between the two, either individually, in pairs, or in groups, with the help of the app, Padlet.


Subject: English Language Arts (4)
Title: True Identity
Description: After reading a chapter book together as class, table groups will each be given a different story character to analyze in more detail.  Student groups will chose from a given list of choices how they want present their character via a creative app on the iPad to the rest of the class.  The other table groups must guess the character being presented and base their guess upon text evidence.  The table group that everyone guesses accurately wins.

Title: Book Boxes: Analyzing Elements of a Story
Description: In this lesson, students will listen to a read aloud and view a model of the project expected related to the first read aloud.  Students will then complete a group project based on a story read as a class. (This can be done as a read aloud or in literature circle groups.)  The books used in this particular activity are Bud, Not Buddy and The Watsons go to Birmingham.

Title: Time to Summarize: Summarizing Information from Multiple Sources
Description: Students will read an informational text and watch a video about clocks and time. Students will then use the information from both sources to develop a summary. This is a College- and Career-Ready Standards showcase lesson plan.

Title: Living in the Wild
Description: In this lesson, students will compare and contrast how the Prehistoric Americans lived off the land at Russell Cave and how Sam Gribley from "My Side of the Mountain" lived off the land. This lesson plan is made possible through the ALEX and the U.S. National Park Service Partnership.

Title: The Komodo Dragon by Thane Maynard
Description: The purpose of this lesson is to familiarize students with research topics through individual assignments that utilize a variety of resources.

Title: Teaching Measurement through Literature and Manipulatives
Description: The tradebook, Who Sank the Boat? by Pamela Allen, is an excellent tool in teaching measurement. Students will engage in activities involving different types of measurement. In the story, five animal friends decide to take a boat ride. As each animal climbs into the boat it sinks lower and lower in the water. The phrase, "Do you know who sank the boat?" encourages children to make predictions.

Title: Text-to-Self and Text-to-World Connections in Reading
Description: Students will further their reading comprehension by associating real-life events with the events of a story.

Students can also learn the difference between an author and an illustrator and practice some of the same artistic techniques used by Potter to create masterpieces of their own.
