Subject: Character Education (K - 12), or English Language Arts (4)
Title: Constitution Day Wordle
Description: Students will draw inferences about the delegates of the Constitutional Congress after watching the video describing the process of creating the Constitution. Students will then follow a link to the Alabama Virtual Library where they will read or listen to an article written about why we celebrate the United States Constitution looking at important details from the text that tell who, what happened, and where and other specific key words from the text.  Students will then work independently taking their words gathered from the article and place them in a word cloud using wordle.They will then partner and share paraphrasing the text by explaining the words they chose for their word cloud. This lesson will be taught in one day.


Subject: English Language Arts (4)
Title: True Identity
Description: After reading a chapter book together as class, table groups will each be given a different story character to analyze in more detail.  Student groups will chose from a given list of choices how they want present their character via a creative app on the iPad to the rest of the class.  The other table groups must guess the character being presented and base their guess upon text evidence.  The table group that everyone guesses accurately wins.

Title: Venomous Snakes of Little River Canyon National Preserve
Description: There are three known venomous snakes found at Little River Canyon. They include the timber rattlesnake, copperhead, and cottonmouth.

Title: 3,2,1…Spinoff
Description: As part of the study of Space, the students will do research on and create a podcast/vodcast about spinoffs developed from space exploration.  In groups, students will use various websites to acquire information about technological advancements that have been made over time. Groups will then write scripts and compose a podcast/vodcast to be shared on the school’s website.This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science University, GEMS-U Project.

Title: Let's Trade
Description: Dr. Seuss has created many classics that students love. During this lesson, students will get the opportunity to share their favorite Dr. Seuss book and favorite character with their class by creating a trading card. Students will use their creativity to develop a trading card on the computer. At the end of the lesson, students will trade their cards with their friends.

Title: 'Leap, plashless'': Emily Dickinson and Poetic Imagination      Add Bookmark
Description: In this lesson, from EDSITEment, students read and explore one of Emily Dickinson's nature poems, A Bird came down the Walk--through interaction with other art forms. First, they listen to clips of a hymn to help them hear Dickinson's meter. Then, they view 19th-century bird images and describe what they see, just as a poet would. They observe how a poet plays with language and imagery to create a scene by acting out verse lines. Finally, they write a brief poem of their own, using what they have learned and their own observations.
