Title: Pennies for your Future!
Description: This is a hands-on activity that is designed to guide students through the process of finding and applying for scholarships. Title: Digital Senior Memory Book
Description: Students will design a digital story that will consist of their memories and thoughts from their whole life. After the students finish the digital book, the book will be combined into a digital presentation to be shared at a senior luncheon.

Title: Teaching the Prologue to The Canterbury Tales
Description: In this self-directed study involving research, composition, and presentation, students analyze Chaucer's characters of The Canterbury Tales as presented in the Prologue. Each student casts a modern personality in the role of one of the characters and writes an essay defending the choice.

Title: Writing a Persuasive Essay
Description: In this lesson students research opposing viewpoints on controversial issues and develop their own position papers. Though primarily for English classes, this lesson could be easily adapted for an interdisciplinary unit with social studies or science classes.

Title: Writing About Issues in the Media
Description: In this lesson students analyze media coverage of current issues and present their findings in a formal research paper and class presentation.

Title: Is Romance Dead?
Description: As an introduction to the medieval romances, students compare and contrast the medieval rules of courtly love to the modern "rules" of courtship and romance. Students write a compare/contrast essay after group work and class discussion.

Title: Modern Day Macbeth
Description: As students work in small groups to compose scripts and produce videos recreating a selected scene, they demonstrate an understanding of Macbeth and the elements of drama.

Title: Sharing Summer Reading Through Literature Circles
Description: This lesson allows students to discuss the assigned summer reading in literature circles with respect to plot, character, and theme. Students work in groups of three to four to produce a slideshow presentation of one of the novels read. Each group shares its presentation with the class.

Title: Your English Mentor: How to Write a Career Research Paper
Description: This structural design will guide students in writing a career research paper from start to finish. They will gather information; cite sources MLA style; develop a thesis statement, outline, and paragraphs; and create a research paper with references.
