In this virtual exercise, students will probe the nervous system of a leech, concentrating on looking at the nerve cells that are responsible for collecting touch information from the skin of the leech to its simple brain. Students will perform an accurate simulated dissection to make part of the nervous system accessible in the first part of the lab, and then use virtual electronic equipment to investigate the electrical activity of individual nerve cells.

Code Fred is an interactive game made available by the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago. In Code Fred: Survival Mode, students play mini-games to send adrenaline to help Fred run faster, build a blood clot to help heal a wolf bite, prioritize energy intake to the most critical organs, and even fight bacteria invaders after Fred gets sneezed on in the woods. Each mini-game helps Fred run a little farther toward safety. Lose one of these challenges, and Fred's body won't be leaving the woods.

There are four main sections to the resource: Function, Anatomy, Protection, and Care. When you click on one of the main sections, you'll be taken to an enlarged view of that section, which contains several subsections represented by the highlighted ring around the circle. Roll your mouse over the ring to see the subsections. To go to one of the subsections, simply click on it. To move from one of the main sections to another, simply click on one of the red arrows found by the ring.

Now is your chance to find out with this website that allows you to rotate and zoom around 28 interactive structures of the brain. The app itself opens with an image of the whole brain with its various regions in different colors. You can select specific structures by touching the Structures icon. Once you've chosen a structure, you can get more detailed information about it by touching the Info icon, which provides information on functions, disorders, brain damage, case studies, and links to modern research.
