In this lesson, both ends of a small chain will be attached to a board with a grid on it to (roughly) form a parabola. Students will choose three points along the curve and use them to identify an equation. Repeating the process, students will discover how the equation changes when the chain is shifted.
Interactive Graph of a Parabola (Standard Form of a Quadratic Equation)
This is an interactive graph of a quadratic equation(parabola) in standard form: y=ax^2+bx+c. Moveable sliders for the value of "a", "b", and "c" allow those values to be changed to explore the vertex, axis of symmetry, and direction of opening.
Quadratic Equation Grapher
Learn about graphing polynomials. The shape of the curve changes as the constants are adjusted. View the curves for the individual terms to see how they add to generate the polynomial curve.
